The transfer period for the 2025-2026 school year begins February 15, 2025 and ends on April 15, 2025.

Late requests will not be considered unless an extenuating circumstance can be demonstrated that include an unanticipated or significant change in the student's status after the published transfer request deadline or other circumstances outside of the student's or parent/legal guardian's control that did not exist prior to the deadline. (Policy 4150)

An In-District transfer Google form will be posted here on February 15, 2025. 

Employees of Out-of-District students should not complete the Google form. The only requirement is to submit the approved out-of-district release from the student’s zoned school district. 

The following schools are closed to new transfers for the 2025-2026 school year. All new transfer requests to these schools will be denied, unless a sibling has been accepted into a special program (EC Adapted Curriculum, LEAP, or Magnet) or the student’s parent is a permanent part-time or full-time employee.

Frank Porter Graham Elementary

Glenwood Elementary 

Smith Middle

Carrboro High

Chapel Hill High

Transfer requests will be denied if they do not meet one of areas of eligibility as outlined in policy 4150, section B.

Students must have less than ten (10) unexcused tardies to school and/or daily unexcused absences. Tardy is defined as arriving any time after the tardy bell. In middle school and high school, this could also include having an unexcused absence for the first period class or arriving at school late.

School bus services to and from school are not provided to transfer students. 

Transfer decisions will be emailed to the parent’s email address that was entered into the Google form. We expect to complete these decisions no later than June 30, 2025. 

Transfer appeal meetings will take place during the summer. Parents will have two opportunities to appeal transfer decisions, first to the district’s hearing committee, and finally to the Board of Education.
