Early Entrance to Kindergarten
Early Entrance To Kindergarten
The State of North Carolina has a process to decide if students may enter kindergarten earlier than the typical age (5 years old by August 31). In general, students who are admitted early are mature for their age in cognition, as well as in social skills and emotions.
Please read both of the policy documents linked below for specific information about the early entrance process. For a list of steps in the early entrance process, please download the parent checklist.
Parents are responsible for making arrangements for their child to be tested with a licensed psychologist outside the district; district staff psychologists are only permitted to test students already enrolled. The district does not make referrals to licensed psychologists.
If you decide you would like to proceed with the process or if you have additional questions, please contact Quamesha Whitted-Miller the Director of Student Enrollment and Assignment, at qwmiller@chccs.k12.nc.us.
